The vestibular system is one of the earliest sensory systems to develop and plays a critical role in how we effectively move through and interact with our environment. While often associated with balance, its influence extends much further—impacting mobility, coordination, posture, muscle tone, body awareness, and the ability to generate and control speed and power.
In this session, Aron McConnell will explore the foundational anatomy and function of the vestibular system and how it integrates with other systems to influence movement. Through practical examples and real-world cases, we’ll examine how vestibular function may contribute to limitations in mobility, stability, strength, speed, change of direction, and overall movement performance. Participants will also be introduced to practical methods for assessing vestibular function, including the Snellen eye chart, vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), SFMA vestibular screen, and VOR cancellation.
